Configuration

Flickerstrip works best when connected to your home Wi-Fi network. To do this, you need to configure your Flickerstrip with your home's network credentials (SSID and password).

  1. Plug in your Flickerstrip and then use a smartphone to connect to the "Flickerstrip" network.
Note: if the Flickerstrip network does not appear, your strip may already be connected to a network

  2. Launch the Flickerstrip app on your smartphone and wait for the new strip to appear as "Unknown Strip"
Note: The strip may take a 30 seconds to a few minutes to appear in the list, be patient and relaunch the app if you don't see it after 2 minutes.

  3. Tap "Configure new Flickerstrips" at the above the strip that just appeared and follow the on screen instructions to enter your WiFi credentials or use the credentials stored by the app.

  4. Once you complete the configuration step, your phone should automatically reconnect to your home network. Verify that it does and then look for the new strip in the listing in the app.

Boot modes

When Flickerstrip is powered on, you can invoke a few special boot modes. During typical use, this will usually be unnecessary, but if you ever run into trouble with your Flickerstrip, try these first.

All of these boot modes are initiated by holding the button while plugging your Flickerstrip in and waiting a certain amount of time for the flashes that correspond to the mode you want.

Forget Network Mode

If your Flickerstrip is configured to a network, you can make it ignore that network temporarily by invoking this boot mode. This will allow you to connect to your strip via the "Flickerstrip" network.

  1. Unplug your Flickerstrip
  2. Hold the button down
  3. Plug your Flickerstrip into power while still holding the button
  4. Continue holding the button until you see the first set of flashes (approximately 2 seconds).

Factory Reset

To completely reset your Flickerstrip's configuration and patterns, use this boot mode. If you ever lose connection with your Flickerstrip and are unable to reconnect, try this.

  1. Unplug your Flickerstrip
  2. Hold the button down
  3. Plug your Flickerstrip into power while still holding the button
  4. Continue holding the button until you see the second set of flashes (approximately 7 seconds).

Emergency Firmware Mode

To manually upload new firmware to your Flickerstrip or to install your own custom firmware, use this boot mode. Flickerstrip will create a network called "FlickerstripRecovery" and will accept a firmware upload by connecting and visiting http://192.168.1.1/update.

Before starting this process, download the latest firmware at https://hohmbody.com/flickerstrip/firmware/v0.5.0.bin onto a computer that can connect to Flickerstrip via WiFi.

  1. Unplug your Flickerstrip
  2. Hold the button down
  3. Plug your Flickerstrip into power while still holding the button
  4. Continue holding the button until you see the third set of flashes that ends in a solid on (approximately 15 seconds).

Once in Emergency Firmware mode, visit http://192.168.1.1/update and upload the firmware bin file that you downloaded.
